Twitter: The Beauty of Avatars

Twitter is a massively popular online social networking service with, according to online news sources, approximately 4.43 million users as of January 2009. We have to admit that we have become intrigued and quite possibly a little addicted to the service. If you haven’t followed us already, we would be pleased to have you join us. At the bottom of the every page on this site you will see a Social area with several social media outlets, select the Twitter link to see what we have to offer. That said, what we are interested in touching on are the avatars of Twitter and their vast diversity. [ An avatar is a small image that represents a particular user's online identity.] Ranging from the usual self portraits to hand-drawn, original artwork we have attempted to select a wide variety of avatars representing the best and most creative. We searched through our followers, our followers’ followers and more for the better part of several days to deliver this selection of top picks. Our intent: to bring together a decent source of inspiration for avatar design. If you have a Twitter avatar you would like to see in this list, send us an email with a link to your Twitter account and we will consider adding it.

Avatar replacement reverts to the default Twitter icon until it has been cached by the system.
