This is very useful. In my quest for more manipulation of the category description and info I found this thread on the wordpress forum:

The plugin mentioned, Category Fields, along with the mod for 2.8+, really does add endless possibilities to the concept ofextra category fields.

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you!

Only change I made was to move the tag to only hyperlink the name of the category. That allows me to style the description differently (lighter color and smaller text).
